    Memorial Day

    Memorial Day

    May 2018

    Dear Parents and Community Members,

It is with mixed emotions that I officially announce my upcoming retirement plans. Specifically, I will end my tenure as the Superintendent of the Magnolia School District on June 30, 2018. I will, however, be staying through the summer months to assist in the transition.

At this time, I am pleased to announce that Mrs. Karen Macpherson has been officially approved by the Board of Education to take on the responsibilities of the Superintendency beginning July 1, 2018.

As you know, Mrs. Macpherson has served capably as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction and thus assumes the Superintendency already acclimated to many of the responsibilities of the job including: staff evaluation, curriculum needs, data collection, and testing. I know that she will do a great job.

I am also pleased to announce that Mr. Paul Sorrentino will become the Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction on July 1, 2018. Mr. Sorrentino has been involved in many initiatives related to curriculum and instruction, and he has long standing ties to both the school and community. He is a great candidate for the position.

A replacement for Mr. Sorrentino’s classroom will be announced prior to the opening of school in September.

Mr. Johnson will continue as principal, and he will be a great support to the two new administrative positions. Mr. Johnson will help provide stability during the transition period. He is a loyal and dedicated administrator.

Also, Mrs. Merri Hansen who has given so much support, both to the office of the Superintendent and the Board of Education, will be working with Mrs. Macpherson to assist with administrative responsibilities. Mrs. Hansen is a most valuable asset to the District.

The Magnolia Board of Education under the able leadership of President Karen Sorbello and Vice President Joyce Albrecht will continue to provide leadership, guidance, and oversight to the district.

And I do not want to forget the Magnolia staff-professional, support, and para professional. I have been fortunate to have such a wonderful staff. This group of individuals is committed to providing the best instructional program. In addition, they often go the extra mile in supporting students in a myriad of ways. It may be providing lunch money, a winter coat, or counseling on a family matter. This is a kind, considerate, and caring staff. They truly do good work each and every day.

Finally, I wish all students, parents, and staff in the upcoming months a productive educational year.

    Sincerely,

    Warren L. Pross
