Superintendent’s Mid-Year Message 07/08
It seems as if I just posted my opening message for the 2007/08 school year. Yet, that was over three months ago. As usual the school year is flying by!
We continue to work hard to create and maintain a positive school culture for our students. To that end, we have many positive and pro-active programs in place. These programs are designed to recognize, support, and reward positive student behavior. Some of these programs include Restorative Practices, Peer Mediation, and the Buddy Mentor Program.
In addition our counselor and school social worker are providing much more than just “crisis counseling”. For example, they have developed on-going groups where students have the opportunity to work out problems prior to a crisis situation.
Our emphasis on the academic program – curriculum and instruction continues. The Response to Intervention (RTI) Program is proving to be successful. In a nutshell, the program provides early and on-going intervention for students in the primary grades who have areas of weakness which cause concern for teachers.
Likewise, we have many other support programs including, but not limited to: reading remediation, grade one to six; math support for seventh graders needing extra help; and preparation for the upcoming eighth grade standardized test scheduled for the spring. Of course, teachers are always available to provide help and support.
As always, we continue to make effort to enhance communication with parents. Feedback on this endeavor continues to be positive. If, however, you feel that your reasonable concerns have not been addressed, please let me know. I can be reached at 783-6343 ext 825.
In closing, please accept my personal wishes for a wonderful 2008!
